So you have your basic routine down and know how to order it. Now you’re probably asking yourself – how much product do I use? I don’t know about you, but I find a lot of product instructions confusing. Instructions like “apply a thin layer” or “use a small amount” are open to interpretation. So today I’m breaking down some general guidelines on how much product to use!
Of course, all products are different, and some people may need more product than others, but this is a great place to start. Feel free to begin here and adjust the amount up or down based on what your skin needs.
Cleanser
A quarter-sized amount of your oil or water-based cleanser is pretty much all you need. I recommend applying water-based cleansers on almost dry skin, and then add a little more water as you cleanse to emulsify the product.
Toner/Mist
Use 3-5 sprays (depending on how fine the mist is), or about a quarter sized amount of toner. If you’re using a cotton pad, you may want to use a little more as the pad will absorb some extra product.
Serum
Use 3-4 drops of serum or about a dime sized amount. You should be using enough so that you can easily spread it over your face and neck. Thinner serums may require a little extra product.
Eye Cream
Use a pea-sized amount for both eyes. This should be enough product to apply to your under eyes and spread around your orbital bone. For eye serums, 1-2 drops should be plenty 🙂
Moisturizer
For most gel or cream moisturizers, a nickel-sized amount is usually enough. However, if you’re bringing your product up to your under eyes + down your neck, you might prefer using a little extra.
Sunscreen
You already know how obsessive I am with sunscreen. I recommend using 3 finger lengths of sunscreen for your face, neck, and ears. This might seem like a lot, but I always say “more is more” when it comes to sunscreen! You might even need a little extra for other areas of exposed skin, like your chest or hands.
Facial Oil
A little goes a long way with face oils, so I recommend using just 3-4 drops. You can either mix these into your moisturizer, or apply them as the last step of your routine (besides SPF).
As mentioned earlier, you may need a little more or less of certain products, so be sure to use what feels right for you. This is meant to be a general guideline to help you get an idea of how much product to use. Have any other questions? Feel free to leave any questions in the comments below 🙂
