Happy Earth Week! I’ll be honest – I have a LONG way to go when it comes to being sustainable in my beauty routine, but I try to make small changes where I can. The beauty industry itself contributes to an insane amount of waste each year, so truly “sustainable beauty” isn’t really achievable. However, I think starting small and making conscious decisions is a great place to start. Today I’ll be sharing some of my favorite sustainable skincare tools/products that I love using in my routine!
Makeup Eraser 7-Day Set
These are my go-to replacement for traditional makeup wipes! Like the original Makeup Eraser, these are made of a very soft microfiber that’s gentle on the skin. They’re small and compact, which make them easy to use around the eyes and lips to remove makeup. I use my favorite Bioderma Micellar Water with these to remove all of my eye and lip makeup, then I go in with my double cleanse. These are my favorite because they’re very soft, easy to clean, and hold up well in the wash! The 7 day set is perfect if you’re a daily makeup wearer too. Just use one a day, then toss in the wash at the end of the week and they’re good as new! I recommend using a fragrance free detergent to avoid irritation. 🙂

LastObject Last Round Reusable Cotton Rounds
If you’re looking for a good set of reusable cotton rounds, and these are hands down my favorite. I used to use single use cotton pads for exfoliating toners like Pixi Glow Tonic, but hated how wasteful they were. I tried a pack of reusable cotton rounds from Amazon, but found them to be too harsh/abrasive on my skin. These are made of wood and cotton fibers, and can last up to 1750 uses! They’re very unique because they are tough/hard when dry, but adding a little water makes them very soft and pliable. These are the closes I’ve found to traditional cotton rounds! I dampen them with a little bit of water to soften, then apply the toner of my choice. I’ve found that liquid lipsticks can “stain” these, so I prefer using the Makeup Erasers to apply makeup and using these for toner.

Experiment Avant Garde
Say goodbye to single use sheet masks! Avant Garde is a reusable, silicone sheet mask that you can use with your favorite serums, moisturizers, or hydrating masks. It works by creating an occlusive layer to lock in moisture and hydration to your skin. It’s truly a game-changer and I use it 2-3 nights a week. All you have to do is apply your favorite hydrating product to damp skin (I love using Topicals Like Butter), and then put on the mask. Pro tip: spread the mask onto the skin in sections, then put on the ear loops. The ear loops are comfortable and help to keep the mask in place. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes, and then remove to reveal plumper, more hydrated skin. If you struggle with dryness or dehydration, adding this into your routine will make a big difference!

Dieux Skin Forever Eye Mask
Another sustainable skincare option is the Dieux Skin Forever Eye Mask. I love these because they’re cute, easy to use, and make such a difference for my under eyes. You can use these with your favorite eye product, serum, or moisturizer – making it fully customizable for you! I love using these with a hydrating eye gel like Osea’s Eye Gel Serum or Dr. Loretta’s Tightening Eye Gel. These also help to lock in hydration into the skin, and really help with my puffy eyes in the morning. Simply apply your product to damp skin, wait about 30 seconds so it can get tacky, then apply the eye masks. Selfie is optional but recommended. You can also use them to catch eyeshadow fallout too! I like to use them in the morning as I’m getting ready – do my eye makeup, remove the eye masks, then apply my tinted SPF. Goodbye, puffy eyes!

While there is a long way to go when it comes to sustainability in the skincare industry, making small changes can make a bigger impact! Remember to use up the entirety of your products, recycle your packaging, and be thoughtful with your consumption. Progress, not perfection! I hope to continue to make small changes in my beauty routine to avoid largely contributing to the waste in the industry. I hope you’ll consider doing the same 🙂
